Nikiti is located at the entrance of Sithonia peninsula. It is one of the major tourist resorts in the area. There are numerous beaches in close distance and there is a wide choice of accommodation options including hotels and apartment or studio rentals.

The place has a history of continuous inhabitation for more than three thousand years. herodotus, mentions the city of Galepsus in between Torone and Sermyle. Modern archaeological evidence suggests that Galepsus was probably located in between Castri cape and Agios Ioannis beach, about 2.5 km from Nikiti. Later, during the Roman and early Byzantine periods, there was a lively settlement in Agios Georgios area on Nikiti beach. an early christian basilica, one of the oldest and most important found in Northern Greece, is what is left from this settlement.
